FanMail : April 2016 "This Means War"

Hey there geekonistas!

In case you missed it, the winner for the giveaway was drawn yesterday! Congratulations again to Teresa K, look out for that box coming your way soon! I'd also like to take a minute to thank each and every one of you for making this giveaway a success, and for hanging out with me and supporting my blog! After all, without you I'd just be talking to myself on the internet.

So for today's review, we're looking at  this month's FanMail box! FanMail is a monthly subscription box "by lady geeks, for lady geeks". It contains geeky/nerdy items and accessories and is usually mailed out at the end of each month. Subscriptions can be purchased either month to month ($21.99 per box) as a 3 month prepay ($63.00 up front, which works out to $21.00 per box), 6 month prepay ($120.00 up front, $20.00 per box) or a 12 month prepay ($228.00 up front, $19.00 per box). A larger tshirt size (2xl-4xl) costs an additional $2.00 per month. These are "true" plus sizes though, not the juniors plus sizes a lot of boxes will try to pass off as plus size.

The theme this month is "This Means War" and it features tons of goodies from battles fought by our favorite heroes and villains and everything in between.

The first item, as usual, is the information card. This month the front contains the same artwork as the t shirt, while the back is loaded up with information about each item in the box, plus upcoming movies, tv, games, books and comics! As always, I'll be keeping this card around all month to remind myself of all the things I have to buy/watch/play.

The t shirt this month is this adorable "Civil War" themed graphic printed on a light blue tee. It reminds me a little bit of the Skottie Young A Babies vs. X Babies comic from the "Secret Wars" event recently that I loved so much, even though the art style is very different.

It was hard for me to pick a favorite item this month, but this next one is definitely a contender. It's a Star Wars cosmetic bag, printed with the symbols of the Rebellion and the Empire in white on a black background. The bag is sturdy and spacious, and the lining seems to be pretty waterproof and easy to clean, which is an excellent quality in a cosmetic bag!

And, to put into the cosmetic bag, is this cute little lip balm. This is called "The Winner's Trilogy", which is apparently a YA fantasy series that I've never heard of! That's pretty unusual for me, working in a library and all. I read the description of the series on Goodreads and I think I will definitely have to check it out though! The balm itself is pretty nice, very hydrating with a lot of slip, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what the flavor is supposed to be?

Next up we have a couple of bonus-type items. One is a set of pencils with quotes from "Mad Max: Fury Road" on each one, and the other is a bookmark signed by YA SciFi author Krust Acevedo.

This is the second contender for "favorite item" this month! It's a super cute red braided bracelet with a dragon charm! It's supposed to represent House Targaryen" from Game of Thrones and I just love it! It's got a chain closure on the back so it's adjustable, too.

Another jewelry item, this is a set of two lapel pins for the "Batman VS Superman" movie. One has Batman's Symbol on it, while the other has Superman's. These are way cute but I think I will pass them on to my husband, who is way more of a Batman/Superman fan than me. (Though neither of us is a fan of the current series of movies.)

And the final item this month is a set of two coasters, which mash up Doctor Who and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Never in my life did I think I would write that sentence. Anyway, these are really good quality ceramic coasters with a cork bottom and "Let's Do the Time War Again" printed in black on the top, surrounded by a circle of Gallifreyan symbols.

Final Thoughts: Overall I was much more pleased with the quality and theming of the items this month. I will find a use for everything and I feel like they were all selected with care and attention to detail. Also, no repeat products, yay!

What did you think of this month's FanMail box? Have you seen Civil War yet? (No spoilers!) Let me know in the comments!

As always, thanks for hanging out!
