Hello Waffle: Visage August 2016

Hey there geekonistas!

Yes, I know, my Hello Waffle Visage review is going up late again! I'm working hard on getting caught up and hopefully this month I'll be on time. I am super excited about the August theme too, since it's based on "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare - which is not only my favorite play of his, but also served as inspiration for my wedding!

Hello Waffle Cosmetics Visage August 2016 Indie Makeup Subscription

In case you are unfamiliar, Visage is a monthly subscription box service from Hello Waffle Cosmetics. It costs $25 a month, plus shipping, and includes a mix of full and sample size items for eyes, lips and face, including one product from a guest indie company. Each Visage is supposed to contain products to create one full face look. I believe the wait list right now is very small to non-existant, so it's a good time to sign up! Since the shop is currently on hiatus there won't be any overstock available until it reopens.

Visage August 2016 Midsummer Night's Dream Shakespeare

This month the Visage includes three loose eye shadow pigments, a "Fairy Dust" overshadow, a blush (highlighter), and a lipstick from this month's guest indie, Chirp Cosmetics. As usual, all loose eye shadow pigments are swatched over Geek Chic Cosmetics' Power Up Primer.

Visage Loose Pigment Jars and Lipstick

Let's start with the blush! Well, it's not really a blush. Even though it's listed as a blush on the information sheet, I'd call it a highlighter. This is an extremely pale, pearly pink shade with a blue shift that's hard to pick up on camera but is really pretty in person.

The first eye shadow is called "Helena", and it a very pale greyish purple with purple sparkles and shift.

The next shade is called "King of the Fairies" and it's a deep blue-green with a silver sheen. The information sheet says that this also has violet accents but I can't really seem to pick those out.

Next up is "Love in Idleness". This shade is another deep blue, but more of a slate blue rather than a green blue, but with a turquoise sheen.

The Fairy Dust overshadows are generally meant to go over other shadows, usually with a sticky base. Their base color is less pigmented but they feature a ton of sparkle, enhancing whatever they go over. This one is called "The Light of the Moon" and it's a teal shade with a blue shift and purple sparkles.

And finally we have this month's guest indie, Chirp Cosmetics. Chirp has included a full size lipstick called "Fairy Queen" which is a sheer pink with a gold metallic finish. I'm not a huge fan of this color on it's own, but I think it could make a nice topper to another, darker shade.

So for this Visage, we had an assortment of very similar colors to work with. According to the information sheet, the intention here was to "layer each eye shadow on top of one another to create a multi-dimensional look". Since the colors are not as "wearable" (though I hesitate to use that word, since what constitutes "wearable" is different for everyone), I decided to do a pretty dramatic look with some extra elements I don't normally include.

So for this look I buffed "King of the Fairies into the crease and along the lower lashline. I blended that out with "Helena", which I also brought into the inner corner. On the lid and lower lashline I used "Love in Idleness" over a sticky base, then used "The Light of the Moon" on the center of the lid for an extra kick of sparkle.

For the brows I used a Darling Girl Cosmetics loose eye shadow pigment in "Pools of Passion", a matte blue shade. The eyeliner is Physician's Formula in Ultra Black, and the rhinestones were courtesy of a nail art kit, held on with lash glue.

Visage Eye Look

The hint for next month is "a good outlaw and his band of merry men", so I'm hoping for some lovely deep greens and russets perfect for fall!

So what did you think of August's Visage? What's your favorite Shakespeare play? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, thanks for hanging out!
