Hey there geekonistas!
I have always been fascinated by myths and legends. When I was a kid I had a book about Greek Mythology that I would read over and over until I had each God, Goddess and fantastical beast memorized. I think my early obsession with myths and folklore is actually one of the things that drew me into anime - many anime draw influence from not only Japanese folklore, but legends from many other cultures as well.
So today I wanted to share with you an exciting new(ish) collection from Darling Girl Cosmetics that echoes my own fascination with fabled beings : Mythical Creatures! This collection of ten loose eye shadow pigments is based on all sorts of fabulous beasties from around the world.. This is not a limited edition collection and it is still available on the Darling Girl website - $3.25 each for a petit, $7.00 each for full size, or you can pick up the entire collection either in petit or full size for a discount!
Because there are so many shadows I've broken the collection down into two parts. Today, part one, is all the warm colors, and the next post, part two, will contain all of the cool shades. As usual, all loose pigments are swatched over Geek Chic Cosmetics' Power Up Primer.
Let's take a look!
First up, we have "Chimera". A chimera is a creature that is composed of parts from other creatures. Traditionally speaking it has the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a snake. This shadow is also composed of many parts, with a rosy pink base and strong gold/green shift.
Next is "Harpy". Harpies are women with beautiful faces and the bodies of birds. Spirits of the wind and sisters of the rainbow, Harpies are cruel and malicious, sent out by Zeus to torment and torture those who have displeased him. This warm reddish brown based on them has a gorgeous blue to pink shift.
Appropriate for a bird that sets itself on fire in order to be reborn, "Phoenix" is a deep metallic red with blue and purple glitters.
The "Manticore". Much like the Chimera, a mix of different creatures - by some accounts the body of a lion, the face of a human, wings of a bat, and the tail of a scorpion it uses to paralyze its victims before swallowing them whole, clothes and all. The shade named for this frightening creature is a golden brown base with a gold sheen and silver sparkles.
No less frightening than the Manticore, the "Basilisk" is a creature said to resemble a cross between a bird and a lizard, with a stare that can quite literally turn you to stone. The Basilik's color is a deep bronze with a pink/gold shift. The pink shift is hard to capture on camera, but is much more noticeable in person.
And that is it for this part of the review! Come back Thursday to check out the cool tone shades, an eye look, and my final thoughts!
As always, thanks for hanging out!
I'm making grabby hands at that Chimera shadow. It's so pretty and everyday-look wearable!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, my potato photography can't capture the full gorgeousness of Chimera! It's really a treat to see in person.
