Hello Waffle: Visage October 2016

Hey there geekonistas!

Hope this week is going well for you well so far. Today I've got a perfectly Halloween themed treat to share with you - this month's Visage from Hello Waffle Cosmetics!

In case you are unfamiliar, Visage is a monthly subscription box service from Hello Waffle Cosmetics. It costs $25 a month, plus shipping, and includes a mix of full and sample size items for eyes, lips and face, including one product from a guest indie company. Each Visage is supposed to contain products to create one full face look. I believe the wait list right now is very small to non-existant, so it's a good time to sign up! The shop has reopened, but since there's a lot of Visage backstock to photograph and list it's not quite up for sale yet - but it should be soon if you want to grab any of these or past Visage colors!

This month the theme is inspired by the movies of the "master of spoop", Tim Burton! It includes two mini size loose eyeshadows, a halfling size loose contour powder, and not one but two guest indies - a lipstick from AFK Cosmetics and a perfume oil from Sixteen92. There is also an information sheet, listing details on the theme and contents, plus a suggested look that incorporates all the products. As usual, all loose eyeshadows are swatched over Geek Chic Cosmetics' Power Up Primer. Let's check it out!

The contour powder is called "How Beautiful the Moonlight". It's a lovely pale greyed out lavender shade that works well not only as a draping blush (I find it a bit too rosy for an actual contour) but also works really well as an eyeshadow with the other shadows in the set.

The first eyeshadow shade this month is called "Simply Meant to Be" and it's simply amazing! This is a pale blue base with a strong aqua shift and gold glitter.

The second eyeshadow is no less stunning. "Because I am Different" is a deep charcoal base with a super intense red sheen and red shimmers.

The lip color this month is brought to us by one of my favorite indie brands, AFK Cosmetics! "Who's Got a Kiss for the Pickety Witch" is a deep wine color with a satiny finish that is long lasting (for a non-liquid matte lipstick, mind you) and extraordinarily comfortable to wear.

And finally, we have "My Whole Life is a Dark Room", the full-size perfume oil from Sixteen92. The information sheet describes the notes on this scent as being "Datura, Opium Poppy, Funeral Flowers, Black Clove, Caramel, Pale Musk, Attic Wood". I don't know if I can quite pick out all those notes, but it does have a nice mix of flowery and musky fragrances. The cool thing about this bottle is that it has some sort of additive that, when you shake the bottle, makes the liquid inside appear to go dark.

So for the look this month, I basically followed the look instructions found on the information sheet. After priming and setting my eye I used "How Beautiful the Moonlight" as a transition shade in my crease.
I then blended in "Because I Am Different" to really define the crease and outer "c" area of my lid and outer 1/3 of my lower lashline. Without a sticky base underneath, this color worked well as an almost matte blending shade.
I applied Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy over my entire eyelid, then patted "Simply Meant to Be" on top.
I then used a black eye pencil in my tightline and waterline and applied my favorite mascara.
For the inner corner I brought in a little bit of "Blue Star" from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit to highlight.

For the face I used my usual primer and BB cream, then applied "How Beautiful the Moonlight" just under the apples of my cheeks - just above the hollows but just below where my blush would normally go. For my lips I of course used "Who's Got a Kiss for the Pickety Witch", which I applied with a lip brush to make precise application easier.

Final Thoughts: I thought this month's Visage was appropriately Halloween-y without having to delve into the usual fall oranges and reds. The color palette felt very true to the Burton aesthetic and I had a lot of fun playing with it! I think "How Beautiful the Moonlight" will especially find a place in my makeup rotation.

What did you think of this month's Visage? What is your favorite Tim Burton movie? (Mine is Nightmare Before Christmas.) Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for hanging out!
