Lunatick Cosmetic Labs : Elvira Mistress of the Dark Palette

Hey there geekonistas!

October is upon us and the countdown to Halloween begins! I'm actually not travelling this month (my wedding anniversary is in October so we often take trips to celebrate) so I'm going to do it up right! And what better way to start than by checking out the brand new collaboration between the ever spooky Lunatick Cosmetic Labs and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark?

Lunatick Cosmetic Labs is a cruelty free indie brand that features 100% vegan and talc free products. They are responsible for the cult favorite Contour Palette, some brilliantly packaged eyeshadow palettes, and their Mystifying Mattifying face powder. This particular palette, created in collaboration with the Mistress of the Dark herself for her 35th anniversary, released on October 1st and costs $35.00.

So one of the biggest draws about the palette for me is obviously the packaging. The shape is identical to the coffin shapes of their other eyeshadow palettes, but instead of the Ouija board design on the outside it features Elvira in all her glory.

The inside is even more impressive! It has a pop-up spiderweb and candelabra, with the mirror in the shape of Elvira's signature jeweled dagger.

There are five eyeshadows and one blush contained in the palette, all in Elvira inspired shades. I swatched each shade on bare skin, then also over Too Faced Cosmetics' Shadow Insurance Primer. First up, we have "Bone", a bright, pigmented matte white.

Next up we have "Macabre" a matte blood red shade. Reds can be difficult to get right, especially vegan reds, so it's not surprising that this one is just okay.

"Unpleasant Dreams" is a blackest matte black. This shadow performed really well, even without primer.

A matte bright blue shade, "Battitude" also performed surprisingly well.

Unfortunately, "Aunt Morgana", a berry shade, seems to be a bit of a dud. It went on really patchy and the shimmer didn't really show up at all until I put it over a primer.

The blush is called "Super Unleaded" and its a warm rosy-peach shade. This is super pretty and very pigmented - it could definitely be used as an eyeshadow as well.

Final Thoughts: Obviously, if you are a hardcore Elvira fan, you need this palette. The eyeshadows, while not perfect, all perform reasonably well over primer and that, combined with the kick-ass packaging, make this worth the cost. If you're not a hardcore fan, I would say this palette is probably not worth it, since most of the colors are easily duped in better formulas.

What do you think? Are you going to pick this palette up? Are there any colors you wish they had added? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, thanks for hanging out!
