Hey there geekonistas - Stay tuned after the end of the review for a very special announcement!
I don't know if I've made it absolutely clear yet, but I love cats. I mean I really, really adore cats. That's probably why I have three of them, plus I've fostered many more from our local shelter. So, when I heard on the My Pretty Zombie Facebook page that they were going to be putting out a limited edition set to benefit SNAP cats (a California based organization that rescues special needs cats) I just knew I had to be first in line for my set!
Unfortunately, because I am old and tire easily, I couldn't stay up until midnight on the launch date to grab one. Fortunately, my little 2 am soccer player, Gizmo, managed to wake me up in time to secure one! As of writing this, there are still some full sets left ($21.00 each, with all proceeds going to SNAP cats) UPDATE: The sets are sold out but the two special shadows, "Ojo de Gato" and "Bear" ($5.00 each) will be available all month long!
The set includes a full size and a sample size of loose pigment eye shadows, plus a lipstick, nail polish, a pin, a little cat figure and a creepy cat card. It all came packaged in this luverly black cat cellophane bag. I also got three sample baggies with my order, a highlight, a contour, and a beauty dust. The package also included a brochure about SNAP Cats and how you can get involved helping them, along with a business card and MPZ sticker.
The full size shadow in the set is called "Bear" and it's a gorgeous peachy-orange color with a gold shimmer. I really like it.
The sample shadow is from a previously released charity shade called "Ojo de Gato" (Cat's Eye) and it's an anything-but-boring super deep brown with copper sparkles and gold shimmer. This would make for the purrfect cat-eye liner!
The remaining two products are both based around the "Ojo de Gato" shade - the first is this really cool lipstick. I love how the shimmers in this catch the light. It may be a little outside of my comfort zone to wear, but I will find a way to use it. Also good to know, this lipstick was not staining at all! Unusual for such a dark shade.
The final product is an "Ojo de Gato" based nail polish. This polish is so warm and gorgeous. It's going to be perfect for winter, or anytime you feel like it! The formula felt a little bit thick and was slightly hard to work with, but it was amazingly opaque in just one coat!
Final Thoughts: Obviously, I'm biased. Cute cat packaging + great cat cause will always = win for me. Even despite that, though, these products definitely show the usual My Pretty Zombie attention to quality and uniqueness that makes them special. I would HIGHLY recommend picking up the LE set, and if you can't get your paws on that, at the very list snag the eye shadows while they are available!
