Hey there geekonistas!
The thing I love about living in Las Vegas is the year round warm temperatures. The thing I hate is that somehow I always seem to miss spring and dive right into summer. Or maybe it's just that I wish spring here would last forever, so it always seems too short? Eh, at least I'm not getting snowed on.
Today I have the April Vanishing Cabinet from Notoriously Morbid to share with you, and this may be spoilery but I have to tell you right up front... remember how I was a bit disappointed by the colors last month? Yeah, that is totally not the case this month. The "Game of Thrones" theme pleases me immensely, both geekily and aesthetically. But, it's better to show than tell, so let's dive right in!
First, the details: the Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet is a monthly subscription service that includes a number of mini sized loose eye shadow pigments (anywhere from 4-6) and/or lip and other bonus products, sometimes including a guest product from another indie company, all created around a specific theme such as a movie, book, or fandom. It costs $12.90 per month including shipping. There is currently a wait list to get the subscription which you can join by emailing Notoriously Morbid, and sometimes you can catch one time "trial" subscriptions (good for that month only) on the website.
The theme this month is "Mother to Dragons" and it contains three loose eye shadow pigments and one "Mystic Matte" deluxe size sample. Mystic Mattes are Notoriously Morbid's formula of a liquid to matte lipstick. There is also a coupon code for 30% off your next order of $20. (Or more? I'm not sure.) Additionally there was an "Atomic FireBall" candy (going with the firebreathing dragon theme) but I am a wuss about heat so I didn't eat it.
As usual, all loose pigments are swatched over Geek Chic Cosmetics' Power Up Primer.
The first color is called "Protective Aggressor" and it's a color based on the dragon Drogon. This is a freaking amazing color. The information card calls it a "black base with a red/orange overlay and bronze sparkles" but it looks more pink/purple with bronze sparkles to me.
Next up is my surprise favorite (I thought for sure it would be Drogon), "Stoic". This shadow is named for the dragon Rhaegal and it is a "green base with a strong gold/red/bronze shift".
And finally, we have "Pretentious Namesake", based on the dragon "Viserion", This is an ivory/cream base with "orange/bronze shift and gold to green sparkles". This is going to make a beautiful highlight! It also pairs extremely well with "Stoic".
And last but certainly far from least, we have "Stormborn", the Mystic Matte lip color based on the Mother herself, Daenerys. This is a dark mauve shade with a blue sheen and and silver/pink sparkles. I was surprised by how much I actually liked this on my lips! The sheen keeps the dark color from making my lips look too flat, and the formula is still one of my favorites.
I don't have a look worked out for this subscription quite yet - I have a meeting with a prospective employer later and I forgot - but I will make a special post tomorrow for a look featuring these gorgeous colors that I am so excited to play with! The hint for next month is "Dig it babe, you need a new look" which, according to my research, is a quote from the John Waters movie "Cry-Baby". I will eagerly await the colors they come up with for that!
What do you think of this month's Vanishing Cabinet? Are you excited for the return of Game of Thrones this Sunday? Let me know in the comments!
Oh and don't forget, I still have my 100th post giveaway going on! You can find all the details and how to enter here.
As always, thanks for hanging out!
