Notoriously Morbid: Vanishing Cabinet July 2016 - "NM's Spirit Guide"

Hey there geekonistas!

This Vanishing Cabinet come with perfect timing! I just saw the new Ghostbusters movie last week and oh, man, I loved it so much. I want to be friends with Jillian Holtzmann more than I've wanted to be friends with anyone in my entire life. Unfortunately, since I can't jump into the movie world I guess I'll have to vent my frustration by playing with this month's Vanishing Cabinet from Notoriously Morbid!

I normally don't include the packaging, but how cool was this bright green envelope for the theme??

The Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet is a monthly subscription service that includes a number of mini sized loose eye shadow pigments (anywhere from 4-6)  and/or lip and other bonus products, sometimes including a guest product from another indie company, all created around a specific theme such as a movie, book, or fandom. It costs $12.90 per month including shipping. There is currently a wait list to get the subscription which you can join by emailing Notoriously Morbid, and sometimes you can catch one time "trial" subscriptions (good for that month only) on the website.

This month the theme is, you guessed it, "NM's Spirit Guide", based on the original Ghostbusters films. (Another one of my all-time favorites... maybe I need to dig my DVD out this weekend and watch it again...) It includes one loose eyeshadow pigment, one loose blush, a "Lipcraft" lipgloss, and a new product for Notoriously Morbid, a "Slumber Salve", plus a coupon code for 25% my next order. Let's jump in!

First up, let's take a look at the loose blush. This is called "Take Me Now Subcreature" and it's a very vibrant orange with a gold sheen . The information card mentions that this is eye-safe, so it can be used as an eyeshadow as well!

Left - full strength, Right - Blended out
Next up is the eyeshadow pigment, "Are You a God?". The card describes this one as a "jeweled taupe", with an golden-y sheen. This is a new shadow formula from NM.

"Lipcraft" is Notoriously Morbid's lipgloss formula, and it's very easy to wear - it doesn't feel too sticky or slippery on the lips. This one is named "I've Been Slimed!" and it has an orangey base with gold flecks and you can see in the tube where there are green streaks as if the lipgloss itself has been slimed.

Finally, the brand new product from NM this month, the "Slumber Salve". This is supposed to be a heavy duty lip salve that you can wear to bed to help soften your lips. The flavor (scent?) of this one is "Toasted Destroyer" and it lives up to it's name with a sweet marshmallow-vanilla scent.

For a look with these products I decided to use "Take Me Now Subcreature" as an eyeshadow, just to give me some more colors to play with. I patted it over the inner 2/3 of my lid over Darling Girl's Glitter Glue, then patted "Are You a God?" over the outer half, blending the two colors together and blending "Are You a God?" up into the crease. I used my old staple, Kat Von D's Shade + Light palette to deepen and blend out the rest of the crease. I used a dampened angle brush to drag "Are You a God?" along the outer half of the lower lashline, and "Take Me Now Subcreature" along the inner half, then blended the two together.

For my cheeks I used Too Faced's Love Flush Blush in "I Will Always Love You", a matte peachy shade, then very sparingly brushed "Take Me Now Subcreature" along near the tops of my cheekbones for some sparkle. On my lips of course I used "I've Been Slimed!"

Final Thoughts: On the information card, the owner of NM disclosed her excitement about creating a VC based around one of her favorite movies, a theme she has been looking forward to for a long time, and it's definitely easy to see the love and excitement she poured into the box!

So what did you think of this month's VC? Have you seen the new Ghostbusters yet? I promise, it's so much funnier and better than those awful trailers make it look.

Take care, and thanks for hanging out!
