It's been a gray, rainy couple days here in the desert. Although I am VERY happy that the temperatures are finally beginning to cool off (75 degrees out today, where's my jacket?!) I was just thinking I needed a little pick me up to get me out of the rainy doldrums when what appeared on my doorstep? My Hello Waffle Visage subscription!
Visage is a monthly subscription box service from Hello Waffle Cosmetics. It costs $25 a month, plus shipping, and includes a mix of full and sample size items for eyes, lips and face, including one product from a guest indie company. There is currently a wait list to subscribe, which you can join by emailing Hello Waffle. There are also often extras from previous Visages posted for purchase on the website, so if you like a particular color you can sometimes grab it even without a subscription!
This month the owner is playing around with testing out new packaging! It's a brown bag, sealed with a sticker from this month's lid art and tied with a cute ribbon. By the way, I discovered the ribbon is the perfect size to use for a headband. Yay reusing!
This month's theme is Baba Yaga, a perfect yet unusual Halloween choice! In case you are not familiar, Baba Yaga is a witch from Slavic folklore. She lives in a hut that runs around on chicken legs and flies through the air in a mortar and pestle. She's very dangerous to travelers but she can be very helpful too, if you know how to handle her. (And have a little supernatural help...) This month the subscription includes two full size loose eye shadows (one from the guest indie), A full size highlighter, a smaller size contour, and two lip colors.
There is also the information sheet, which contains information about each of the products, a suggestion for a full-face makeup look utilizing them, a blurb about this month's guest indie, and on the back a retelling of "Vasilisa the Fair", the story of a young lady who has a life changing encounter with Baba Yaga. There's also this cool card featuring a larger size of the artwork.
Starting off a little differently this month, the first things that caught my attention were the two (!) lip colors included in this month's subscription. The first is called "Red White And Black". This is a cool, blue toned red with a shiny finish. It's kind of sheer on first application but it can be built up a little bit.
Next is the lip color "One Of Three" and it's actually black with a blue sheen to it. This one can definitely be built up in opacity. This might also be cool to use to darken other lip colors! I actually do not own any black lipsticks at the moment so I was super happy to see this.
One of the full size products included this month is a highlighter! This is a cream colored base with just a hint of shimmer. It works well on both the eyes and face. The swatch on the left is applied to bare skin and blended out with a fluffy brush, while the swatch on the right is over primer.
The halfling size product is a contour. It's a cool brown color that again, can double as an eye color.
To the left is applied with a fluffy brush and blended out, to the right is applied with a shader brush on bare skin, no primer. This is definitely a very pigmented color, so if you decide to use it as a contour make sure you use a super light hand. Things could get very Kardashian, very fast.
And the full size eyeshadow this month is just.. just stunning. It's called "House on Legs" and its a dark brown base with all kinds of blue and green sparkles. This color, foiled, would make an amazing liner!
And lastly, we have this month's guest indie product. This is a full size eye shadow from AFK Cosmetics. I had never heard of AFK before this, but I am definitely going to have to check them out. They have a Monty Python collection, yo! Monty. Python. (Ni!) The color included here is called "The Bone Mother" and its a dark taupe base with a silver blue sheen to it.
What do you think about this month's Visage? Do you subscribe or are you going to pick up any colors from the overstock? Let me know in the comments!
Love this!! Great review! :)
